Provided by AGPRomania’s Foreign Minister Oana Toiu said the reported “public showcase of hostility and humiliation” directed at activists by Israeli officials violated basic standards of human dignity.
She also described what she called “willingly abusive treatment” of flotilla participants, noting that many of those involved were European citizens and arguing that their rights were not being properly respected.
The minister called for the immediate and safe release of the detainees in accordance with international standards and urged that their rights to consular access and humane treatment be guaranteed.
She further warned that such incidents should not be repeated and called for full responsibility in handling the situation.
The comments follow the interception of the Global Sumud flotilla by Israel forces in international waters, during which activists were detained after attempting to deliver humanitarian aid, according to reports.
